UPCA Student Council Member Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Student Member to join our Council. This is a unique opportunity to represent the views and experiences of student members and advise UPCA how they can improve the offering to members. You will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on development of UPCA policies and guidance.

Heike Myers our previous Student Council Member provides her thoughts on the role:

“Being a Student Member of the UPCA Council has been an interesting and enriching experience. I have learned much from the thoughtfulness and care the Council applies to the great variety of matters it attends to, while always maintaining a spirit of openness and fairness. As a voice for student members, you can share ideas emerging from your own lived experience as well as raise issues that are alive in the wider student community at the time. I recommend applying for the position as it offers insights into decision-making processes of psychotherapy trainings and an opportunity to actively participate in these whilst learning about the different aspects involved.”

Key Responsibilities:

● Attend and actively participate in Council meetings (usually held monthly and an annual AGM)
● Contribute to discussions, offering insights from a student perspective
● Act as a voice for student members, raising issues and sharing ideas
● Collaborate with other Council members to support the strategic vision and goals of the organisation
● Engage with the wider student community to gather feedback and share updates.

We are keen to hear from students who are:

● Currently enrolled on an approved counselling or psychotherapy training programme and a member of UPCA
● Passionate about the development of the profession and committed to ethical practice
● Strong communicators with an ability to engage confidently with peers and professionals
● Committed to promoting diversity and inclusion within the profession
● Able to dedicate time to meetings and associated responsibilities.

Benefits:

● Gain invaluable experience in governance and strategic decision-making
● Build your professional network within the counselling and psychotherapy
community
● Support and mentorship from experienced Council members
